August 2026 Update

I write this sitting in a beautiful library in the Canadian Rockies, with the scent of woodsmoke in the air and a view of several mountains, slightly hazy from wildfire smoke and an impending rainstorm. After many months of intense work, I’m finally on vacation, and I decided to spend it back in my home province of Alberta. (I’ve lived in Quebec for a few years now, but Alberta will always feel a bit like home for me.)

It’s been many months since I’ve updated this blog, and I feel a bit sheepish returning to it after so long, but I thought it was time for another update, as some exciting things are happening!

Through Darkness Published

First, the sequel for Into Shadow published at the end of January. Thank you to everyone who has read it (and reviewed it) so far! This was a very difficult book for me to write, so I really appreciate those of you who have taken the time to tell me you’ve enjoyed it. I’m still an author at the start of my career, so I’m incredibly grateful that people have chosen to take a chance on my work again.

If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you probably know that this series (The Rook Wars) is important to me because it has the representation I was looking for when I was diagnosed with bipolar II. The series is heavy at some points, perhaps particularly in this book. Because the subject matter is sometimes heavy, I’m taking a small break before I fully commit to drafting the third book. I’m about 15K words into the third book, and I’m planning to return to it after I finish drafting my current book. I promise I will get back to it! I love this series and these characters, and I’m looking forward to continuing their journey when I feel ready.

The Quest for Lennox Levane

I have a new book coming out on Friday, November 6, 2026. The Quest for Lennox Levane is the first book in a planned trilogy called Root and Flame, and I’m starting to get very excited to share it! Compared to The Rook Wars, the tone of this one is lighter (with a few darker moments). I sometimes describe it as “a grumpy witch, an incompetent knight, and an arrogant knight go on a quest together.” I also summarize it as “When Reyna’s mother dies, she’s determined to do whatever it takes to resurrect her, even if it means helping a knight with an agenda of his own.”

It includes some of my favourite characters I’ve ever written. I’m really looking forward to sharing them with you! I’ve been working on this one on and off for about thirteen years, so I’m glad to be finally putting it out into the world.

On that note, I’m currently looking for ARC readers for this book. If you’re interested in being one of them, you can find the application form at this link.

ARCs go out on October 5, and I’ll be closing ARC applications when I send out the book. If you know anyone who might be interested in an ARC, please feel free to share the link!

What I’m Writing Now

I’m currently drafting the sequel for The Quest for Lennox Levane. I was struggling with it for a few months, then realized I wasn’t happy with the plot premise. I scrapped what I had so far and started over, and it’s going much better! I won’t go into any details about this one since the first book isn’t out yet, but suffice it to say that it’s exciting to be back in this world with these characters. After the difficulty of writing Through Darkness, I’m happy to say that drafting this book is feeling a bit easier, and I’m crossing my fingers that it stays that way!

Other News

In other news, I have been very silent on social media and this blog because I’ve been so busy with my day job. I’m a freelance editor, and the past eight months have been intense, involving lots of overtime. I’m working on finding a better balance because I still want to be writing, which is difficult when I’m burnt out from editing—I find editing and writing use similar parts of my brain, which can make balancing them both difficult. So, if you haven’t heard a lot from me lately, this is why!

I’m using this vacation to recharge a bit and also spend some time working on the writing things I’ve been neglecting. I’m slowly getting back into drafting and posting, while also doing my best to recover from what has been a very intense 2026 so far.

If you’ve read this far, thanks very much! I’m looking forward to continuing to work on my books so I can continue sharing them with you. As always, thank you for your interest in my work!
